Colne, a picturesque town nestled in the heart of Lancashire, England, carries an intriguing musical heritage that is often overlooked. It is the birthplace of Wallace Hartley, who served as the bandleader on the ill-fated Titanic. Hartley's band famously played on as the ship sank in 1912, providing a haunting soundtrack to one of the most tragic maritime disasters in history. The town pays homage to its celebrated son through the Wallace Hartley monument, a striking bronze statue located in Albert Road, thus putting Colne on the map for those intrigued by the enduring Titanic tale.
Another captivating fact about Colne pertains to its impressive geographical feature, Pendle Hill, which looms over the town. This prominent hill is steeped in mystery and folklore, most notably associated with the Pendle witch trials of 1612. These trials, among the most famous in English history, led to ten people being hanged for witchcraft. Every year, thousands of visitors are drawn to Pendle Hill, eager to uncover its secrets and explore the beautiful, rugged landscapes that surround it. This blend of natural beauty and historical intrigue makes Colne a uniquely appealing destination for those interested in the supernatural and the great outdoors.

Located 3 miles (5 km) northeast of Nelson, 6 miles (10 km) northeast of Burnley and 25 mi (40 km) east of Preston. The town should not be confused with the unrelated Colne Valley around the River Colne near Huddersfield in West Yorkshire. Colne is close to the southern entrance to the Aire Gap, the lowest crossing of the Pennine watershed. The M65 terminates west of the town and from here two main roads take traffic onwards towards the Yorkshire towns of Skipton (A56) and Keighley (A6068). Colne railway station is the terminus of the East Lancashire railway line. Colne adjoins the Pendle parishes of Foulridge, Laneshaw Bridge, Trawden Forest, Nelson, Barrowford and Blacko.
