The cathedral, a stunning example of medieval architecture, has been a site of pilgrimage for centuries and continues to draw visitors from far and wide.
Geographically, St. Davids is surrounded by some of the most stunning coastlines in Wales. The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park weaves an enchanting tapestry of wildlife habitats, sandy beaches, and rugged cliff tops that provide a spectacular backdrop to the city. Landmarks such as the St. Davids Peninsula and the Ramsey Island further enhance its appeal.

St Davids, nestled in the heart of Pembrokeshire, Wales, holds the unique distinction of being the smallest city in the United Kingdom, both in terms of physical size and population. This quaint town attained its city status due to the presence of the magnificent St David's Cathedral, a tradition dating back to the 16th century when any settlement housing a cathedral was considered a city. Despite its small size, St Davids has a rich and complex history, being a place of religious significance since the 6th century when St David, the patron saint of Wales, was believed to have been born and established a monastic community.
Another intriguing aspect of St Davids is its stunning geographical location. It is situated within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, the only coastal national park in the United Kingdom. This unique location gifts St Davids with breathtaking natural beauty, ranging from rugged cliffs and sandy beaches to diverse wildlife. Notably, it is also a part of the Pembrokeshire Coast Path, a world-renowned 186-mile-long trail offering some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in Britain. Thus, beyond its religious and historical significance, St Davids also serves as a gateway to some of the country's most remarkable natural landscapes.
St Davids or St David's (Welsh: Tyddewi, [ti wi], lit. "David's house) is a cathedral city in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It lies on the River Alun and is part of the community of St Davids and the Cathedral Close. It is the resting place of Saint David, Wales's patron saint, and named after him. St Davids is the United Kingdom's smallest city by population (number of residents within the wider community was 1,751 in 2021) and urban area, however it is not the smallest city by local authority boundary area (which is the City of London). St Davids was given city status in the 12th century. This does not derive automatically, but in England and Wales was traditionally given to cathedral towns under practices laid down in the early 1540s, when Henry VIII founded dioceses. City status was lost in 1886, but restored in 1994 at the request of Queen Elizabeth II.
